Carolinas Via Research Recognition Day

T he second annual Via Research Recognition Day at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM)–Carolinas was held on April 7, 2017. The event featured research presentations and posters from 40 VCOM students, faculty, and local researchers, with a total of 100 registered participants in attendance. The featured speaker at VCOM– Carolinas Via Research Day was Steven A. Skinner, MD, director and senior clinical geneticist at Greenwood Genetic Center. Dr. Skinner presented a lecture on Rett Syndrome, from natural history to clinical trials. McRae, JD, PhD Vice President of Research and Development, American Osteopathic Association

at the Medical University of South Carolina, presented a research lecture on post-transcriptional regulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transitions. Kenya D. McRae, JD, PhD, Vice President of Research and Development for the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), led a plenary lecture titled “Foundation for the Future: AOA Research Covering the Spectrum.” Medical students, faculty and other participants submitted a total of 34 posters in the categories of biomedical, clinical, and educational research. In addition to the featured speakers, six oral presentations were focused on topics in both biomedical and clinical research studies. Top prizes were awarded to 16 research posters.
