The Alumni Board met in September 2016 and March 2017 with plans for a number of initiatives, including the development of an Alumni Speaking Series, recommendations from the Alumni Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, highlighting outstanding alumni on the VCOM website, and updating alumni association bylaws to include all three campuses.

VCOM hosted annual Homecoming events in September 2016, with 33 alumni returning to Blacksburg, Virginia. Continuing medical education (CME) lectures were given by members of the Class of 2011. Alumni and their guests were treated to a night at Firefly Hill Vineyard as well as Virginia Tech tailgating and a football game following their CME. Several alumni also reconnected throughout the year at the Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association
