Scholarships and Endowment Gifts

F. W. “Sonny” Merryman Jr. Family Endowed Scholarship Fund “ Students need scholarships and it is important for VCOM to make medical education accessible for those who need it most. My late husband, Sonny, and I both believe scholarships are important to allow committed students to attend college, regardless of their financial situation. We were very blessed and I am glad to honor Sonny’s memory by creating this special scholarship that will have a positive impact on the students and the communities where they will practice and serve. ” – Frances “Lou” Merryman William B. and Ann Holtzman Endowed Medical Scholarship Fund “ We are firm believers you should give back to the community where you live and work. We give to VCOM because it offers students from our region an excellent medical education and creates unique opportunities for them to return and practice in the areas where we do business. We are very fortunate and appreciate the opportunity to join VCOM in achieving its mission of preparing community- focused physicians trained to meet the needs of rural and medically underserved communities. ” – Ann and Bill Holtzman Megan Cornwell Thomas, DO, and William Thomas, DO, Endowed Medical Scholarship “ As a family, we have been personally involved with VCOM from its very beginning. The availability of accessible and efficient primary care in rural America is a substantial and growing problem that impacts all of us. VCOM is graduating excellent physicians, and we are happy to be able to create an endowed scholarship to support the good work of current students and future physicians who return to practice in the region. ” – Megan Cornwell Thomas, DO; William Thomas, DO; and Gary and Laura Cornwell
