VCOM 2017 Annual Report

inspired by compassion and giving

Donors inspired by compassion

V COM was founded in philanthropy, and our loyal alumni, donors, and volunteers have built this College with their generosity and service. They give of themselves, not to receive anything in return, but to help us advance the careers of students and the mission of VCOM. The reasons to support VCOM are many, and are so inspiring that we had to share the stories of our advocates. We hope their words inspire your own philanthropic pursuits.

Real Estate Gift Jeanne Stosser’s gift of real estate enabled the College to create an endowed scholarship to provide financial support for a deserving student from southwest Virginia. Many types of real estate, including personal residences, farms, undeveloped land, and commercial properties can be used to make a gift to VCOM. “ I got involved with VCOM several years ago as a member of its Standardized Patient (SP) program. This gave me the opportunity to work closely with the students as a trained patient, teacher and evaluator. As an ‘SP,’ I experienced firsthand the amazing dedication of both VCOM’s faculty and students. My bequest to VCOM does not cost anything now, yet it gives me great satisfaction in knowing the impact it will make on future generations of medical students. ” – Betsy Woodruff Legacy Society Gift The Legacy Society honors and celebrates alumni, parents, and friends who have made a commitment to support the College through a planned or deferred gift. These future gifts contribute to the growth and success of VCOM, and will benefit future generations of students and faculty. Jeanne Horne Stosser Endowed Medical Scholarship Fund “ VCOM has been very instrumental in the life of my company and to my family. Having grown up in rural southwest Virginia, I understand the importance of providing healthcare for those needing it most and living in medically underserved areas. My parents instilled in me early the importance of giving back to help others. I am glad to be in a position to give back to VCOM and help its students who have a passion for helping members of underserved communities in need of physicians. ” – Jeanne H. Stosser
