VCOM 2016 Annual Report

A Path to Advancing Research V COM has made continued progress over the last year in advancing its research mission.

The Research Department continues to generate high-quality faculty development programs to assist faculty in making their research programs more fruitful and to help them develop successful extramural proposals. In conjunction with this, VCOM has expanded its successful Via Research Recognition Day event, with both the Virginia and Carolinas campuses hosting separate but collaborative research day programs. intramural research projects our faculty pursue. These internal, non-funded projects allow faculty to collect preliminary data for future extramural applications, and offer excellent opportunities for students to learn about research firsthand. These intramural projects cover all areas of research— biomedical, clinical, educational and outreach, and the majority of them involve our students as active members of the research team. There are currently over 120 VCOM students involved in these projects. Scholarly works from VCOM faculty are not only based on funded research, but also on the numerous
