Proof of post-graduate training and proof of current state medical licensure when initial board certification has not been granted; or Proof of initial board certification (even if now expired) and current state medical licensure. o See section 3.1 for specific requirements regarding board certification for Clinical Department Chairs and the Chair for OMM. • Proof of any additional training certificates if applicable; • Proof of prior teaching experience in the classroom or clinical setting (if any) to include: accomplishment in the area of teaching, evaluations of teaching performance conducted by students and/or supervisors, courses/rotations taught, teaching load; and • Letter(s) of recommendation: o Academic Track candidates must submit at least one letter of recommendation for initial appointment from the candidate’s direct supervisor. If the candidate had prior teaching experience in the classroom or clinical setting, the letter of recommendation must address the candidate’s teaching competence. Candidates may not use letters from friends, collaborative partners in research, previous trainers with whom a relationship is maintained, or relatives. o Research Track candidates must also submit at a letter of endorsement for initial appointment from the VCOM Vice President for Research. o For Clinical Track candidates (preceptors) the review and recommendation letter by the VCOM Discipline Chair and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs will serve as this letter of recommendation. o Resident Clinical Track candidates in their second year of residency or higher, must submit a letter of recommendation from their residency program director that specifically describes how the resident is actively contributing to the instruction of VCOM students in the clinical setting in fulfillment of their residency requirements. The letter should outline the nature of the resident’s educational contributions, including direct participation in student education activities, supervision, or instructional support provided as part of the resident’s required residency duties; the frequency and setting of the educational contributions; the level of responsibility and independence in educational contribution activities; and the relationship to residency requirements. A full-or part-time Academic Track candidate seeking initial appointment will submit their completed application packet to the appropriate Associate Dean, who will review the application packet, and will consult with the Associate Dean to determine if any additional information is required. • A biomedical academic track faculty candidate must submit their completed application packet to the Associate Dean for Biomedical Affairs (through the Administrative Assistant).
