Kinesiology. VCOM’s University collaborative research programs provide shared laboratory space opportunity with the various schools within the University. The research laboratories and the microbiology laboratory are located on the first floor. Auburn Community and Area Auburn is located in Lee County, Alabama. It is the largest city in eastern Alabama with a population of approximately 54,000. Known as, “The Loveliest Village on the Plains”, Auburn provides a hometown atmosphere with ample restaurants, shopping, recreation, and entertainment. The area hosts the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center, the Auburn Area Community Theatre, the Julie Collins Smith Museum of Art, and Auburn University’s Telfair Peet Theatre rich with plays, ballets, musicals, and art experiences. Chewacla State Park has 696 acres, offering many recreational activities. Just in the Auburn area alone, there are six 18-hole golf courses open to the public. Auburn University Activities The VCOM–Auburn campus operates with a collaborative agreement with Auburn University for education, research, and student activities. This collaboration offers the Auburn campus faculty and students many benefits such as an opportunity to participate in AU campus activities, including use of the student support services, libraries, recreational facilities, food services, parking, transportation, and student activities. These activities supplement the activities and student programs available on the VCOM Campus and utilized by students for everything from study to intramurals. VCOM Louisiana Campus Overview The VCOM-Louisiana campus is beautifully placed along the Bayou DeSiard on the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) campus, home to the ULM Warhawks and national champion water ski team. With easy walking access to the ULM campus and shared facilities, the VCOM-Louisiana campus is surrounded by the ULM athletic grounds and the bayou. The inviting landscape of the campus offers picnic tables under a canopy of live oak and bald cypress trees and a walking path along the bayou. Main Facility The main campus building is over 90,000 square feet and is situated on a 10-acre campus. Ample parking is available for all VCOM students and faculty. Handicapped and visitor parking is also available. VCOM’s information system is provided through ULM and provides our campus community with access to systems and resources worldwide. The classroom environment affords optimum learning conditions while demonstrating respect for both students and faculty. In addition to two theatre classrooms that easily accommodate 150 students each and can seat up to 200 if desired, there are 20 moderately sized rooms available for small group learning. The main campus building also includes a state-of-the-art anatomy lab, a center for technology and simulated medicine, a library and student study and lounge space. VCOM collaborates with the University of Louisiana Monroe whereby the student is very much a part of the University community. VCOM and ULM hold separate accreditations. VCOM research collaborates with the ULM School of Pharmacy, Kinesiology College and the University Biology departments. VCOM’s faculty share space in the University laboratories and the University faculty share space in VCOM’s laboratories. Monroe Community and Area The VCOM-Louisiana campus sits stately on the banks of the Bayou DeSiard within the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) campus.
