VCOM Governance Structure

The Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine established and approved bylaws and an administrative structure in the year 2001. The bylaws were amended in 2009 to allow the institution to also operate as the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and to have representation from branch campuses. The VCOM bylaws define the governance structure and duties of the Board of Directors and the Advisory Boards for each campus. The Board of Directors and the Advisory Boards consist of members who have the expertise and resources to promote the mission of the college, who are knowledgeable in education, osteopathic medicine, finance, research development, and educational law. While the policies, procedures, and college-wide programs are overseen by the VCOM Board of Directors, each campus has an Advisory Board with the purpose of advising the Campus administration and the Board of Directors on the needs, community engagement, and development priorities for each campus. The Board of Directors oversee the President and Provost. The President oversees the College-wide policies and procedures and the officers including the VP for Finance (CFO), the VP for International Outreach, the VP for Research, the VP for Operations, the VP for Information Technology, and the VP for GME. The Provost oversees the VP for Recruitment and Application Services, the VP for Academic Affairs and Accreditation, and the Campus Deans as the Chief Academic Offers of their campuses. The CFO also has fiduciary responsibilities to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. The College-wide Officers oversee their Divisions across the campuses, assuring quality resources for the Campus Deans, faculty, and students and the adherence to college policies. A College-wide Committee structure exists to oversee certain activities in these areas as well. VCOM also provides an administration, supervisors, and a full faculty for each campus including a Campus Dean, Associate Deans, Division Chairs, Discipline Chairs, Department Directors, and other supervisory positions to assure quality programs are delivered and the needs for each campus are met. Each branch campus has a faculty body and staff to assure a quality curriculum is delivered. Each campus has a committee structure to support the campus specific needs and provide representation on College-wide Committees. A list of the VCOM Board of Directors and Advisory Board Members, college-wide administrators, and campus specific administrators and supervisors has been provided below to outline the governance structure of the college.
