2. POLICY The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine is committed to the support of graduate medical education as a continuum of osteopathic medical education and as a pathway to medical licensure for VCOM graduates. 3. PROCEDURES VCOM will support the growth and maintenance for Graduate Medical Education through the following: 1. Provide an on-campus Division for Graduate Medical Education. 2. Provide an Associate Dean for OMS 4 and Graduate Medical Education for each campus who will: a. Provide general counseling in health careers to OMS 1 and OMS 2 students each year. b. Provide individual counseling to all students entering the OMS 4 year on residency selection, application, interviews, and preparation. c. Connect OMS 4 students with the Clinical Chairs for assistance with career choices and residency applications. d. Provide a residency career day for students on campus each year, hosting residency programs for students to interact with. e. Serve as a liaison with all VCOM affiliated graduate medical education for that campus. f. Educate VCOM students on the development of credentials for acceptance into GME. g. Counsel students in developing and improving their academic CV across the years. h. Assist OMS 4 students having difficulty through the application process and/or with residency placement. i. Assure VCOM graduate placement into GME with a minimum of 85% first time match placement or above and 98% or greater final match placement. j. Maintain a residency placement database to assist students in connecting with alumni who have completed residency where students are applying. k. Continue in this counseling to also support the Mission of providing physicians for the rural and medically underserved areas in the Appalachian and Delta regions of the Southeast U.S. with residency placement into programs most likely to serve the rural and medically underserved areas where possible. 3. Provide a College-wide administrative support team to assist hospitals in developing new GME and to assist current GME hospital partners in maintaining GME approval. The team includes: d. a consulting faculty member or employee experienced in the Financial Support of GME 4. VCOM will serve as a sponsor of Graduate Medical Education in the following manner: a. Serve as the academic medical school sponsor of programs transitioning from AOA to ACGME accreditation who request this. b. Present to all hospitals with current ACGME accredited programs on the benefits of osteopathic recognition and to assist with the development and/or maintenance of osteopathic recognition where programs wish to pursue this recognition. a. the Senior Vice President who oversees the Division b. the Vice Provost for Graduate Medical Education, c. a Director for Graduate Medical Education, and
