infectious disease outbreaks that threaten a greater portion of campus employees and/or student body, specific policies and procedures will be developed and posted to the website for faculty, staff, and students. Faculty, staff, and students will be notified via email and the website. VCOM will follow policies and procedures set forth by the CDC and the state and local health department during times of outbreaks and/or pandemics to assure faculty, staff, and student health safety during such outbreaks. 7. HEALTHCARE AND INSURANCE 7.1 VCOM Student Mental Health, Physical Health and Health Insurance Health insurance is a mandatory requirement for all VCOM students. VCOM provides health insurance for its medical students and all VCOM students are automatically enrolled in the health insurance plan. There is no additional cost to the student for this health plan. In most cases, if the student chooses, he/she may hold another insurance plan, and the two policies can work together. However, it is not required to have another policy. See Policy S013: VCOM Minimal Health Requirements for Admission and Continued Enrollment Policy for more information on student health insurance. VCOM ensures that diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic health services are available to students within the campus community and in the communities of our core hospital sites through agreements with primary care health providers. Health services are confidential. Students who need healthcare services outside of the office hours of the healthcare providers listed must visit their local emergency room or urgent care office. Students are provided with information regarding these services at the beginning of each academic year. The information for eligible providers at each core site is also provided to OMS 3 and OMS 4 students by the DSME and Site Coordinator. Provider information can also be found on the VCOM website. VCOM employs a Mental Health Counselor on each campus who provides assistance to students experiencing individual stressors and/or difficulty with personal levels of functioning and are available for any student seeking assistance with preserving or restoring their mental health. In addition to VCOM’s Mental Health Counselors, VCOM contracts with mental health providers in each of the campus communities to ensure that VCOM students have readily accessible mental health services when preferred by the student. During the OMS 3 and OMS 4 years, students may continue to utilize the community-based counseling providers, any of the VCOM Mental Health Counselors, or for those with VCOM health insurance, LiveHealth. For OMS 3 and OMS 4 students who do not have VCOM health insurance, VCOM has contracted with TimelyCare, a virtual health and well-being platform available 24/7. All students, OMS 1 – OMS 4, who have VCOM health insurance, have access to LiveHealth Online where they can access psychology, psychiatry, and general medical appointments via video appointment. There is no out-of-pocket cost for students who are covered, and services are available to family members for a fee.
